Head Over Heels is one of our most anticipated releases of 2016, and if you known us, even just a little bit, you know we LOVE the Geek Girl series. It’s one of the best things to come into existence because I think there’s a Harriet Manners in all of us. She’s such a relatable and funny character, you can’t help but fall head over heels for her. SO, we had great expectations for the fifth book, and BOY were they met! Let’s fangirl about it!

1. Harriet Has Friends
   This is the first time in the series when she has more than Nat and Toby at her side. Now, Jasper and India have joined the group and made Team JINTH. Harriet’s super invested in making sure her new friends are happy and that they spend as much time together as possible. Let’s just say that Harriet gets a little overexcited at this development. Still, it was lovely to see her so happy with people she cares about.
2. Funny Dialogue
   Because all of the friends, even ones we’ve loved from the beginning, like Nat, are more prominent in the story, they’re given a lot more voice. Nat and Toby are hilarious, and we found ourselves laughing out loud at some of the things they said.
3. Love Is In The Air
   Now, don’t get your hopes up. It’s not what you’re expecting. If you’ve read Geek Girl in the chronology of it’s publication, then you’ll just have come out of All Wrapped Up dreaming of how cute Harriet and Nick are. Head Over Heels, of course, takes place waaay after that short story, when Nick isn’t in the picture so much. But, somehow, there’s still a love interest. And it’s beautiful. We’re very firm supporters of the idea that your first love doesn’t have to be your only love. (Example: Pocahontas 2: Journey To the New World…although, both of her love interests were called John, so there was obviously something going on there.)
4. MODELING ADVENTURES
   This is what Geek Girl is made for, and one of the reason’s we loved Model Misfit, the second book so much. This time, Harriet goes to India, and her adventures there are extremely…colourful. But, she also does an Elizabethan shoot much closer to home, and these shenanigans were just as fun to watch unravel. It’s so exciting getting to know odd facts about different countries, and we can’t wait to see where Harriet ends up next!
5. Rin’s Return
   Head Over Heels sees the return of Japanese cutie-pie Rin, from Model Misfit. There are lots of cute references to Hello Kitty and Rilakkuma as a result and it was heavenly. (RELAXY BEAR) Also, more love is in the air for Rin and we couldn’t have been happier with this plot point.
6. RICHARD (and Annabelle and Bunty)
   The unwavering faith that Harriet’s family has for her is adorable. They are our favourite fictional family, without a doubt. Richard, the maverick, is the unsung star of this series and we all know it.
7. Character Development
   Especially in All That Glitters, it felt like Harriet wasn’t applying all the things she learnt about social situations. At the end of each Geek Girl book she comes to a realisation about how to be completely herself without alienating other people and finally, all those lessons seem to pay off her. You could see how Harriet had matured. She still got stroppy occasionally, but there was more thought behind her actions. She was trying hard, and it was worth it.
8. Plot Layers
   This book felt extremely episodic and it was the best. The plot just kept getting more and more layers, and you wondered how Harriet was going to dig herself out, but that girl is always successful, no matter how much she embarrasses herself in front of the fashion world in the process. This was definitely the meatiest plot of the series, and extremely fun to read.
9. Happy Endings
   Finally, Harriet’s one goal throughout Head Over Heels is to make everyone around her happy. If this doesn’t prove that she’s the sweetest character in existence, I don’t know what will. She’s always got her heart in the right place, and a character that’s so conscious of the people around her is great to read about.

Before reading Head Over Heels we were scared this would be the last book in the series, but it definitely isn’t. Harriet’s next adventure is taking her down under, and we all know who lives there. Book Six is going to be a wild ride, and we can’t wait. So, if you haven’t guessed, this book gets: 5 (billion) stars.
