Apart from the horrific mustard coloured cover, I was really intrigued by ‘I’ll Give You The Sun’. The title was ambiguous enough to not give any of the story away, and it’s about twins, which is always a bonus for me. So, I dived straight in and was not disappointed! I was a little scared, seeing as one page of the book is just ‘In a set of twins, there is one angel and one devil’ in really big font, but after reading the book in its entirety, I realised I’d taken that out of context, and all was going to be A-OK.

Seeing as the book is told from both Noah and Jude’s perspective, I’m going to split up my review as such:

Creative Blogger Award

creative-bloggerThank you so much to Bellsiebooks for the nomination for the Creative Blogger Award! We’ve done quite a few of these now, so decided instead of random facts about us we’d do some twin-related facts about us.

How it works:

  1. Nominate a whole bunch of blogs and notify all nominees via their social media/blogs.
  2. Thank and post the link of the blog that nominated you (very important).
  3. Share 5 facts about yourself to your readers.
  4. Pass these rules on to them.

Five Facts About Maddie and Bee:

1. There are 14-17 minutes between us! And for 17 years our parents never told us who was older, which is totally cool because we weren’t interested. We only found out because our times of birth were written at the bottom of an old baby photo. Hidden in plain sight all that time!

2. When people ask who’s older we give them different answers every time. Gotta keep that mystery alive!

3. We think that Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell has so far been the most accurate representation of what it’s like having a twin sister ❤ Other twin fiction that we would recommend: One by Sarah Crossan and I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson. Oo, oo, and watch Gravity Falls! Best buds.

4. Bee learned how to read ‘in her head’ before Maddie, but now Maddie can read faster. (We’re not competitive twins though!)

5. We have never, not once, switched places to fool people. I have absolutely no idea why people always seem to think this. And, we regret to announce, we don’t have physic powers. I know, shame, right?

Format: Paperback
Rating: ★★★

As part of my Mansfield Must-Haves, I picked up the 21st Century retelling from my local library. Reading retellings is a great way to dive into the world of classics, and gaining a basic understanding, as much as a literary web series is!

I initially picked up ‘Goose’ because one of the main characters discovered religion, and I was interested in reading about that subject matter, as I think religion isn’t really something that’s dealt with a lot in the YA genre. Also, the characters were about to go off to university, and it was supposedly a tale of friendship. Being in that situation myself, I was looking forward to a possibly very relatable read. But, alas, if this book wasn’t under 250 pages, I wouldn’t have finished it. Here’s why. Continue reading “Review: Goose by Dawn O’Porter”

I was super duper excited to read the sequel to ‘Rebel Belle’, which I gave 5 stars because I loved it so much! ‘Miss Mayhem’ contained all the same elements of the first book, which was enjoyable, but did fall into the trap of second-book-syndrome. I was a little disappointed with how things ended, (thank goodness this is a trilogy!) but let’s talk pros and cons!

Another perfect contemporary read! I loved the characters and thought the relationship was so cute! Kasie West tried to deal with some more intense issues but I thought they were pushed to the way-side with the main focus being on Charlie and Braden’s relationship. I fell in love with Charlie’s family, but I much prefer having one twin sister to the thought of four older brothers!

Let me be the first to say I LOVE ‘The Lunar Chronicles’ and that they embody everything good and righteous in this world. BUT, I’m a little tied up over ‘Fairest’, the prequel to the series, giving you a look into Levana, the wicked queen’s backstory. *cue rippling harp music*  It was interesting to find the root of Levana’s wickedness, however, Levana’s actions throughout the book made me feel very uncomfortable, leading me to give this a quite low rating. As she is the villain, I guess the book was doing its job, and so deserves a high rating…I don’t know, though I do know Marissa Meyer is an excellent story teller, which warrants at least a star alone.  Continue reading “Review: Fairest by Marissa Meyer”

‘One’ was definitely an interesting and enlightening read. It’s about conjoined twins, Tippi and Grace and their lives. Being a twin myself, I love reading about twins, to see how authors deal with the relationship, as it’s definitely different from older-younger sibling relationships. Crossan did a great job in portraying the emotional closeness of the pair, and the strength they found in each other really shone through the novel. Before I get on with the review, I think anyone and everyone should read this, whether it’s their type of book or not, just because it’s different and eye-opening, regardless of ratings others give it!

I picked this book up at my local library mostly because the main character Tessa had a vaguely similar power to Rogue from the X-Men (which I love!), considering I read this book on a whim, I was pleasantly surprised! However, I didn’t feel like the story was necessarily anything I hadn’t read before. Definitely a book for fan of Starters by Lissa Price.

It’s the summer, I was in need of a contemporary and Maddie and I just so happened to take a trip to our local library and we picked up a whole bunch of things! Fixing Delilah being one of them. I hadn’t heard anything about it previously, making it the perfect contemporary to leap into! I was definitely not expecting to like it as much as I did, but, man, Fixing Delilah was an amazing start to my summer of reading. My mum really loved people based movies that focus on familial relationships, specifically the bond between sisters, and I think this would perfectly fit the bill. So, if you want to have your heartstrings pulled and uncover a bit of mystery then I suggest you try and find your library’s copy too!
