Okay, so, for this review we’re going to do things a little differently. I’ve already gushed about how much I adored Front Lines, the first in this kick-ass alternate history about what would’ve happened if women were allowed to fight in WWII, and now it’s time to gush about Silver Stars in a handy dandy list of reasons why it’s so good, and you will love it too!

Twelve Days of Dash and Lily is an unexpected sequel to Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares, one of the first books I remember reading when I first joined BookTube. In a way, I loved this book as just a nod to the nostalgic days of 2013, and when I was still in the habit of reading seasonal books in their appropriate season. (Will this finally be the year that My True Love Gave to Me is appreciated?) But what else did I enjoy…? Continue reading “Review: Twelve Days of Dash and Lily”

Historical reimagining of what it would’ve been like if women had been allowed to fight in World War II? Where do I sign up? Not for the war (that would be my worst nightmare and this book pretty much solidified that!) but for this sweet piece of fiction. I picked up Front Lines from my local library, and, my goodness, am I glad I did. (It also came highly recommended from my friend Amy who is a HUGE Michael Grant fan.) I had zero expectations because I’ve never read anything by this author but the concept made me think of one of my fave movies ‘A League of Their Own’, a true story about women’s baseball during the war.

I read My Life Next Door in 2014 and wasn’t blow away because I’d heard a lot of over-hyped reviews. With What I Though Was True there seemed to be a lot more mixed reviews, so I felt a lot more prepared. I was pumped to be reading something contemporary with lots of summery feelings, and I wanted to give Huntley Fitzpatrick a second chance. The first half was SO GOOD but the second half, well…

I dubbed 2015 the year of the contemporary mystery thriller, and even though I read a lot last year I still had a few lined up that I still wanted to read. This title is so enticing I just had to know what happened! I was really engrossed upon first picking this book up, it had a wonderful Pretty Little Liars vibe with the main character, June having lost her ex-best friend after it’s announced in a school assembly that Delia killed herself. June doesn’t really believe Delia would do something like that, so she gets sucked up in a quest to find out what really happened to her best friend.

Firstly, this cover is ridiculously beautiful. Secondly, I’m not getting any sleep tonight! Seed was haunting and had me so on edge throughout the whole book. There’s this giant sense of foreboding that something has to go terribly wrong. Part of me wished I could unread this book because it was just so unsettling!
