As much as I loved hearing about how wonderful Sydney and Adrian felt in their newfound relationship, I was pretty annoyed that the main plot line is that the want to have sex with one another. Their lust for one another totally outweighed the seriousness of the tattoo ink, which felt a lot like a sub plot. This book was very slow and altogether not my favourite sequel.

This cover is so beautiful I just had to read the book! The blurb made it seem like a light-hearted contemporary with dual perspective between Quinn and Seth, but it’s so much more than that! I probably wouldn’t recommend this book to younger readers as two of the main themes are teenage pregnancy, and sexual relationships. However, it was really interesting to read a book with so many different dimensions, and I really like how there were recommendations for other books that had similar themes in the back.

Review: Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella

The main selling point for this book is that it’s about a girl with social anxiety. But perhaps, the next main selling point is that it’s a YA book written by the chick-lit author Sophie Kinsella. A lot of people, on Goodreads, were getting exciting about Kinsella moving into the YA genre, and although I haven’t read any of her previous works, I can definitely say I was impressed by ‘Finding Audrey’. I was first interested in reading ‘Cleo’ because of its obviously Egyptian themes. I’ve only read one other book on the subject, ‘The Red Pyramid’ by Rick Riordan, and was interested to see how another author transformed the mythology. To place Cleopatra in a YA setting sounded like an excellent idea, and I was looking forward to being immersed in the land of sand, gods and temples. But, (I know, I know, why does there always have to be a but?) I had a few issues with the execution. Let’s discuss!

Maddie requested this book from NetGalley, but because she had a bunch of other things to read, I said that I would read Material Girls instead, therefore I had absolutely no idea what it was going to be and what it was about. I’ve now looked at the blurb which claims Material Girls was a mix of Project Runway and Divergent. I saw neither of those things. Overall, I’m not entirely sure whether this book was the most ridiculous take on dystopian that I’ve ever read, or a really interesting satire on materialism with some epigrams thrown in for good measure!

We were given a copy of Shadow Study at a blogger event hosted by MIRA Ink, where we also got to meet the author and have the book signed! It’s been quite a while since I read the Study series, but Yelena is one of my all time favourite characters so of course I had to read this new instalment straight away! Shadow Study was packed full of intrigue and mystery, making it the perfect starter to a new series that will appeal to both old and new readers! However, if you don’t want to be spoiled on the Glass Series we suggest you read Opal’s trilogy first!

As a finale to a trilogy, this book was something incredibly different. It wasn’t ‘Mockingjay’, and it wasn’t ‘Allegiant’. It wasn’t wild, it wasn’t action-packed, but the calm after the storm of ‘Fractured’. I didn’t know what was going to happen to Kyla, and where she was going to go, but I sure was pleased with were she ended up.

Plot and Pacing
As I said, this was the most mellow of the three books. We found out about Kyla’s past life in ‘Fractured’ and now it was just about seeing what she’d do next. The answer? Find her birth mother.  Continue reading “Review: Shattered by Teri Terry”

Yes! I can finally finish the Glass series! I’ve had these books on my shelves literally for years, and I kinda wish I hadn’t put them off! Opal went through a massive change in personality in the previous book so it was interesting to see where she was going to end up. I think I enjoyed this book the most out of the series, surprisingly, because it had everything I needed! In my previous review I made comments about needing Valek, Pazia and more on the Bloodrose clan, and Maria certainly delivered!

MIRAInk Blogger Event: Meeting Maria V Snyder

On the 25th March, we were invited by MIRAInk to a blogger event as part of Maria V Snyder’s UK tour, for the release of her newest book Shadow Study, the first in a new series called ‘Soulfinders’, that follows Yelena from Poison Study. As you can guess, we were beyond excited as Bee is the biggest fan of the ‘Study Series’ and will happily claim Yelena to be her favourite female protagonist of all time (next to Amy Curry, from Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour, of course!)

The event took place in the MIRAInk offices (such lovely, lovely offices) in Surrey and was to begin at 7:30pm. As well as getting to meet Maria and get our books signed, (we had a lot of them!) we got the chance to meet some other bloggers as well, who were such friendly, great people!

So, once we’d all been acquainted with our name tags and the refreshments, we got to meet Maria. I think everyone was a little starstruck as we listen to her talk about her family and her cat (named Valek!). It’s strange to imagine authors not sat at desks, typing away at their next masterpiece!

bloggersThen ‘The Mingling’ commenced!  We all talked about our blogs and what we’d most recently read, but after that we started to just talk about Game of Thrones and student life and general bookish wonder. I loved going into a room filled with people I already had so much in common with –  bloggers are an excellent breed of human 🙂

We also got recognised (?!?!) from our YouTube channel, which was pretty amazing! Cara, the lovely lady who invited us to the event, asked us about our channel and the different mediums we all use to talk about books. It’s great that there are so many different ways to share how much we love literature!

Getting to meet Maria was amazing! She was so funny and interesting, and asked us what it’s like to be twins. We’re going to see her again on 6th April, so hope to get to talk to her more then 🙂

When it was time to go, we got a very adorable neon pink gift bag, with two books, an Easter egg, nail varnish and a notebook (oooh!) Overall, it was such a lovely event and we cannot express how thankful we are to MIRAInk for the invitation! It’s a night we’ll always remember – thank you for the books, Maria and the new friends ❤

Reading Multiple Books at Once

I’ve always found myself to be the kind of reader that can’t help but read multiple books at once. It’s a habit I’ve always had and one I hope to break!

My most recent example of this ‘reading sin’ began when I started to read ‘Fractured’ by Teri Terry. (Note I write started and not finished…we’ll get to that later.) I really enjoyed ‘Slated’, the first book in the trilogy, and it has been over a year since I read it. When I saw the sequel in my local library, I knew I had to read it. Also, the ‘Slated’ trilogy was what I pulled out of The Series TBR Jar this month, so I had an obligation to read it!

I got 180 pages through, but then….
