Review: Legion by Julie Kagawa

Series: Talon (#1) | Rogue (#2) | Soldier (#3)
Note: We received the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

This is the fourth book in the Talon series, and it picks up immediately after the events of Soldier. I was pumped to pick this instalment up because, honestly, I just wanted to see what else Talon had up their sleeves. We have been building up to something big, I know that this book was going to be an explosion.

I feel like it’s also funny to mention that I’ve been thinking this whole time about dragons transforming into humans and how awkward that must be, and how does it work an all that, THEN I realised that that’s literally the premise to the old Disney channel show ‘American Dragon.’ I completely forgot that they turned into dragons in that too, so as soon as I started imagining Legion as a YA version of ‘American Dragon’ I was golden.

Now, I have read a LOT of YA mystery/thriller kinds of stories, but when I read the blurb for this one, I just couldn’t resist; the mystery pulled me in! Although, I wouldn’t recommend reading the Goodreads blurb, because I think it gives a little too much away, so here’s mine instead: The Deviants follows five teenagers who used to be best friends until everyone’s favourite older sister Jessica died. Years later the fearless five find themselves back together, playing their old tricks and seeking revenge. But Ella, the narrator, is hiding something from the rest of her friends, including her boyfriend Max. If they knew the truth it would surely rip them apart, because it seems like she has an explanation for Jess’s death, and no one is going to like it.

Series: Talon (#1) | Rogue (#2)

The third instalment in the Talon saga and, surprisingly, I liked it the most out of all the books in this series so far. I don’t know what it is, but these books sort of creep on me. They’re fun and unexpected. If you’ve enjoyed the series so far then I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed with Soldier. (Unless, like me, your favourite character is Dante…)

I received a copy of this book from the publishers in exchange for an honest review.

Finally! I feel as if Night Study has found some of the original magic that made me fall in love with the Study series in the first place. Shadow Study was okay, but it wasn’t the best opener to a new series, but Night Study raised the bar so much, meaning I’m now super pumped to read the finale! Night Study is literally bursting with awesome characters, intense magic and complicated villains. If you haven’t gotten lost in the Chronicles of Ixia yet then you’ve got a lot of reading a head of you.

Inside Out and Outside In by Maria V. Snyder
Genre: Sci-Fi, Dystopian
Published by: Mira Ink
Format: Paperback
Rating: ★★.5

I’ve made it my goal this year to try and read all of Maria V. Snyder’s works. It’ve been an avid reader of her Study series for a really long time, and her foray into dystopian sounded like exactly the kind of thing I would like. In a world were people are separated into Upper and Lowers, where the Lowers look after everyone by doing the jobs no one wants to do, we follow Trella, a scrub, who just might know how to get people to the elusive Outside where they can’t be controlled by an oppressive society run by the Controllers.

The Iron Warrior loved up to all of my expectations. It was a fast paced, adventurous reads that won’t leave fans of the Iron Fey series disappointed. Once again Julie Kagawa completely drew me into this world of fear rivalries, and I have to say that I’ll be incredibly sad to leave it.

After really enjoying Pushing the LimitsI was really excited to read Katie McGarry’s next companion series, as her characters are really well developed. However, Nowhere But Here didn’t really reach my expectations. Don’t get me wrong, it was a really interesting read as I hadn’t read anything about Motorcycle clubs before, but I’d say this book would be more appealing to an NA audience.

Okay, so the epilogues for this series so far are incredible! I need Soldier in my possession ASAP. How I’m supposed to go on when the final reveal changes EVERYTHING I don’t know! Rogue is a great sequel to Talon; it’s just as action-packed, with 100% more conspiracy. I have to say that I missed the blend of the contemporary/fantasy thing Talon had going on, but this series is definitely heading in an interesting and new direction.

Dragons that can turn into humans: Who wouldn’t want to read that? Julie Kagawa always delivers a really action-packed contemporary/fantasy cross over, and Talon was no exception. The premise is so original and I’ve never seen it done before, the whole logistics of it may seem a bit crazy, but if you can look over the fact that dragons the size of buses can squeeze into a tiny human frame then you’re in for a wild ride.

We were given a copy of Shadow Study at a blogger event hosted by MIRA Ink, where we also got to meet the author and have the book signed! It’s been quite a while since I read the Study series, but Yelena is one of my all time favourite characters so of course I had to read this new instalment straight away! Shadow Study was packed full of intrigue and mystery, making it the perfect starter to a new series that will appeal to both old and new readers! However, if you don’t want to be spoiled on the Glass Series we suggest you read Opal’s trilogy first!
