I was pleasantly surprised by The Selection and I was pleasantly surprised by The Elite! Who knows what’s going to happen in The One but I am so excited to read it!

I’d heard plenty of bad things about America as a character, normally in reviews you never see America without ‘was really annoying’ straight after, and yes, I thought she was a little whinge-y at times, but she was far less annoying than I thought she’d be. Good. Now that’s out the way, onto the review.

‘Eve and Adam’ was one of my library reads of the Christmas break. I didn’t really know what to expect with this book, as the tagline was ‘and girl creates boy’. When I researched other reviews of this content, a lot of people were surprised that the book didn’t take place in the future and was instead a 21st Century setting. I guess this was because the technology for creating human life was quite advanced, so not expected in 2013, when this book was published.

I am extremely pleased that this sequel has the same rating as the debut. It’s not often this happens, but I thought that Marie Rutkoski’s world was better developed, the plot was made clear and my level of enjoyment was continuous throughout.

‘Reached’ is the third and final book in the ‘Matched’ trilogy. The first two books felt like they were building up to this finale, and all the questions were going to be answered. Well, ‘Reached’ followed through on the answers thing, but it was safe to say this book was less than spectacular.

T5W: Anticipated 2015 Releases

We’ve previously talked about the Top 15 books we want to read this year, and in that list are a couple of new releases, so we thought we’d think of a couple of others that we’re also super excited for!

1. Miss Mayhem by Rachel Hawkins
Rebel Belle made Maddie’s Top 14 of 2014 and hopefully the second book is just as good if not better. Also, she needs some answers for the HUGE cliff-hanger!

2. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass
A mix of faeries and fairytale retellings. This is basically the perfect read for both of us, I’ll be reading for the faeries and Maddie will be reading for the Beauty and the Beast intertextuality!

3. The Heir by Kiera Cass
After finishing The Selection Series, we’re excited to see what could possibly happen next, although we have a few concerns that The Heir will end up being a gender bend of The Selection, we still hold out hope.

4. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Bee is super excited to finish the Shadow and Bone Series, and can’t wait for the next fantastical adventure by the same author. The premise sounds incredible and action packed, so what’s not to love?

5. PS. I Still Love You by Jenny Han
Although it’s a known fact that we at Heart Full of Books, are not the biggest Jenny Han fans, and weren’t that impressed by To All The Boys I’ve Love Before, there does seem to be legitimate grounds for a sequel, as the first book felt like a prequel to hopefully something amazing that will happen in this sequel.

Paper VS Pixel: A Debate

photoEver since the Kindle was first created, there has been a lot of debate about whether people prefer books made of paper, or books made of pixels. I can’t chose, that’s why I love both, and that’s great. But, I thought I’d give you some advantages and disadvantages to both types of books.

Physical Books
+ Tangibility – Feeling the pages turn is an accomplishment – I feel so much success with each page that is read and can easily visualise the end.
+ The Smell – We all love the smell of a book. Who knew there could be so much variation?
+ Sharing the Love – Its so easy to give your friend a copy of ‘Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour’, rather than your whole Kindle which is, arguably, more priceless.
– The Price – I swear three years ago I could buy a new book for £5.99. Now most books are £7.99 and those extra £2 affect me.
– Space Issues – For those of us with limited shelf space, an obsession with physical books can be tricky.

E-books
+ Instant Purchase – If you want to buy something on an e-reader, you can do so in about 5 seconds, and start reading it instantly. (Which is great if your nearest book shop is ages away.)
+ The Price – Books tend to be cheaper on Kindle; even new releases can be under £3. ‘Anna and The French Kiss’ is only £1.99!
+ Discovery – E-readers offer a wide variety of books only available in e-format. Take ‘Clearwater Crossing’ for example, or novellas like ‘ The Queen’ by Kiera Cass and ‘Raven’ by Lauren Oliver.
– Reliability – With any electrical device, comes a battery life. Physical books won’t die on you in the middle of an excellent chapter.
– Corporate Guilt – Kindles are created by Amazon. That means any book bought via a Kindle will be from Amazon, the corporate giant who isn’t always angelic to booksellers. Buying physical books allow us to support independent book sellers! Yay!

So, which is better? I still can’t decide…so for now, I’ll just use both!

First of all, the cover is beautiful. Whoever designed it deserves a medal. This book has been sat on my Kindle bookshelf for a while, and since it’s 2015, I thought I’d clear out my shelves and start reading books I bought six months ago. When I clicked on to ‘The Winner’s Curse’, I had no idea what to expect. What I got was an odd mixture of fantasy and historical fiction.
