I love Monster High! I have a bunch of the dolls and really loved the whole concept when I first discovered MH in 2012. Maddie read the books a few months ago and said they were definitely worth reading for fans of MH and I have to agree! Also, it helps that each book in only around 230 pages long so I zipped through the series in, like, two days!

I was sold on the idea that this book would be ‘unlike any angels I’ve read before’, it certainly had something I’d never read before – and it wasn’t the angel apocalypse. Angelfall was a lot slower than I was expecting and even though I’d heard a lot of reviews mentioning the horror element I was still surprised by how revolting and vivid the description was. I should have taken my great apathy towards horror movies – the scariest film I’ve ever seen probably being The Black Cauldron, I mean, come on! The Horned King is too creepy for the under tens. – as an indication that I should stay clear. However, I gave it a go and here are my thoughts!

I haven’t read a vampire book since Vampire Academy, and I thought I’d read it all. Oh boy, was I wrong! The Immortal Rules is an incredible dystopian/ paranormal blend that introduces vampires as you’ve never read them before. At first I was hesitant, but I’m so glad I gave it a change. I loved the world building and all of the characters. This book went in so many different directions that you never could have predicted the ending from how it started.

There has been a lot of controversy in the booktube community surrounding this book, and I have to say that I am equally as confused as the majority. I’ve been mulling over what to write in this review for a few days and I still haven’t quite organised my thoughts. Did I like it? Did I find it frustrating? The one thing I can say for sure was that I liked the writing style. Aveyard used a lot of the same descriptors for certain classifications of character, which was a little boring, but I loved her end of chapter hooks. They really contributed to me need to keep reading.

Firstly, this cover is ridiculously beautiful. Secondly, I’m not getting any sleep tonight! Seed was haunting and had me so on edge throughout the whole book. There’s this giant sense of foreboding that something has to go terribly wrong. Part of me wished I could unread this book because it was just so unsettling!

This story is original and perfect for fans of Maria V. Snyder. The world building was strong and I really enjoyed the protagonist, she was strong and independent and showed real progression throughout the story. However, I couldn’t really get into the world, and I thought the romance element was weaker than the revenge plot, and wasn’t necessary to the story as a whole. I wouldn’t describe any of the characters as particularly personable, so it was hard to feel sympathy for the cause.

First things first, this cover is absolutely gorgeous, if I could rate it for cover alone then A Thousand Nights would no doubt get 5 stars, but realistically, I just didn’t enjoy the story at all. Wings is my favourite faery story of all time. This was my fourth re-read of the book, and I can promise you now that it never gets boring! The world will completely suck you in and the folklore is different to anything that is normally portrayed in faery fiction. Aprilynne Pike has somehow made this stunning and complex world that absolutely leaps off the page. Laurel’s story is so dear to me and I can’t wait to continue re-reading the series and reviewing my thoughts, because I first read these books in 2011 when YA was still very new to me.
