All about friendship, this book is special. Focusing on the lives of Caddy, the protagonist, and her two friends Rosie and Suzanne as they try and navigate teenage life. Full of fun, friendship and the inevitable drama that comes with being 16 years old, ‘Beautiful Broken Things’ is an amazing novel and a masterful debut.  Continue reading “Review: Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard”

Cas Lowood is a ghost hunter – it’s part of the family business – and he’s good a pretty good reputation for it. There’s one ghost that he’s determined to destroy: Anna Dressed In Blood, the ghost of a girl wronged the night of her prom, she haunts a house in the town that Cas’s mum has just relocated him too. Anna Dressed In Blood is a mild horror (with elements of comedy and romance) that probably contains a lot of the horror movie tropes those fans of the genre will recognise. Seeing as I don’t particularly enjoy horror myself, this was a… weird read.

The time has come! My perfect fairy tale is over, sobsob. What am I going to do without anymore books in this series? How am I going to cope? (I’ll wait for The School For Good and Evil movie, that’s what. (Can Agatha be played by a British 18 year old, would that be OK?)) Warning: this isn’t really a review, more like a fangirl gush of my feelings for this book and the series in general. Just imagine rainbows and glitter embellish this review, and you’ve pretty much understood my feelings. I LOVE this. Like, really really really LOVE it. Soman Chainini can do no wrong. With that said, on with the review!  Continue reading “Review: The Last Ever After by Soman Chainani”

The Iron Warrior loved up to all of my expectations. It was a fast paced, adventurous reads that won’t leave fans of the Iron Fey series disappointed. Once again Julie Kagawa completely drew me into this world of fear rivalries, and I have to say that I’ll be incredibly sad to leave it.

I requested this book from NetGalley because I was in the mood for a short book, preferably a contemporary, that could be read in as few sitting as possible. This book delivered on all of those fronts. It was exactly the kind of book you need to get out of a reading slump! There are a lot of wonderful things about ‘This Raging Light’, and some parts that left me in the dark. Let’s discuss. Continue reading “Review: This Raging Light by Estelle Laure”

Maddie read Obsidian earlier in the year and said that it was basically Twilight with aliens. In Half-Blood‘s case, it’s basically Vampire Academy with gods. Is this author able to come up with something completely original? If you have a favourite book by her, then please recommend it! Especially if it’s unlike anything you’ve read before. Plot
The main plot point is Iris, the protagonist, discovering the existence of her dying father and getting to know him during his final breaths. It’s a basic concept, but was a refreshing story about family – love ’em, or hate ’em, we’ve all got them. The story was so fleshed out with back story, and context of the painting being discussed, I was never bored while reading. In fact, I read the first 60% in an hour, it was so addictive and fast paced. Continue reading “Review: Fire Colour One by Jenny Valentine”

I picked this book up on a whim because of the quirky cover, and I usually trust whatever Hot Key Books publishes. They know what’s good. I was also really in the mood for a nice contemporary romance, which was exactly what I got.  Continue reading “Review: Fish Out Of Water by Natalie Whipple”

Happy Book Birthday to ‘Counting Stars’! To celebrate, let’s review!

Plot
The basic premise is a bunch of people live in a house together, and you get to know about their lives. Sounds simple, right? That’s where you’re wrong. Each character has their own dilemma and, as a reader, trying to deal with five at once was tricky, but rewarding. Set in Liverpool, this book is perfect for anyone 18 or over, as I’d say this book is like a hybrid between YA and new adult fiction, which comes from the characters being 18 or over, and therefore having slightly more mature situations to deal with.  Continue reading “Review: Counting Stars by Keris Stainton”
